AP World History I need a thesis statement using the factors (SPRITEE) COmparing the Aztecs and the Incas?

December 9, 2009 - 4:27 pm 1 Comment

Thesis statement: CCT Aztec & Incan civilizations.

thats the prompt.. i need to incorportate it using the AP World rubric that goes like "when comparing this to this between this and this using this factor etc etc"

can anyone who has taken the AP World Class develop a good thesis statement with good description and factors comparing the Aztec and Inca Civilizations

You might say something like:

"Although they resided in separate areas of the hemisphere, spoke different languages, and used different ways of record-keeping, the Aztecs and the Inca were two branches off the same Native American tree, based on corn civilization, astronomy, and collectivism."

Hey people, this is an update of my UCAS Personal Statement, please read, comment and give corrections if need?

December 9, 2009 - 4:26 pm 2 Comments

If you read my 2nd last question, you would have noticed that I made a few changes to my statement over here. As much as you comment, please RATE my P.S from 1 to 10

"Science is a subject that I have always been fascinated about, I would like to apply for the Electrical and Electronic Engineering course. Physics and Mathematics are my best subjects; they both play a big role in the course and would be useful to me, as I am able to solve mathematics equations. Also the idea of creating electronic objects like robots, video-game consoles and accessories, large machines and phones really appeals me. Science related studies have been around my family for ages-my father and some of my uncles studied engineering, my maternal grand father studied architecture and my mother has a PhD in medical Science.
Currently, I am attending Barnet College and I am studying BTEC National in Applied Science (I really enjoy the practical side of the course) and GCSE English (retake) with the aim of getting at least an MM Grade (160 UCAS Tariff Points) in the BTEC and a C Grade in the GCSE, respectively. I decided to do both courses because of the inspiration of my recent GCSE achievements; also I knew that participating in the course would make me successful in any science course, like electronics or electrical engineering.
I have some work experience; for example I worked outside the country, in a cybercafe for a month. As a Ticket Clerk, I was responsible for selling out tickets for time limits at which costumers could use the computers as well as helping them out in using the computers, for instance I assisted an elderly man in using his e-mail account. and that lead me to having skills useful to me in the course. I have some computer skills which include knowledge on how to use the Microsoft Office and the internet therefore giving me the ability to do course work with a computer. With other skills like being able to manage my time, I can ensure that I will always be punctual during learning hours, plus my literacy and communication skills can help me in confidently working alongside with lecturers and other students to make better achievements. As well as communication skills, team work is also important when working with fellow students; I am a good team player therefore, that is not a problem for me.
In terms of leisure, I enjoy playing video-games, especially console games- my best genres are football, racing, fighting & adventure, sometimes I have daydreams of making my own video game which brings me back to the reason why I was destined for this course. My best movie genres are action, sci-fi, comedy and at times horror; comic book hero movies like Iron man amaze me. I liked the main character of the movie; Tony Stark, he’s the one I almost wanted to be like- wealthy, confident and he was also into Electronic Engineering, which is why he was able to make his Iron man suit and become a hero.
I enjoy watching football-my favourite club is Arsenal and my favourite national team is Nigeria. My most memorable Arsenal player is Thierry Henry; he earned a record as the highest goal scorer in Arsenal through out the team history, second to Ian Wright and he was one of the players that helped Arsenal to qualify for a UEFA champions’ league Final. I enjoy listening to music; almost any kind of music grabs my attention, even soundtracks from movies and video games, but my best music genre is Rhythm and Bass.
Furthermore, I look forward to the experience, challenges and achievements of higher education. As I have explained, I consider that I have the necessary interest skills and motivation to apply for electronic and electrical engineering. After the degrees, I would like to work in an engineering industry, build machinery for the government or participate in research for new devices. By taking part in this course, I would be fulfilling my career path."

As a very critical University student I have to give this a 2.

I don’t know what University’s your applying for and I won’t write your ps out again (as It already been done) but I will give you comments.

Firstly don’t have words such as "some" in I have ’some’ work experience. Don’t use words that show a lack of what you have. Just say I have work experience and let them be the judge of how much there is.

You also have a grammar mistakes. Phones really appeals TO me. There also a few other mistakes. Just get someone to look over it with it printed out so they can underline all the little mishaps! It’s not a problem. I had a few.. But it does not hurt to have it perfect!

You do not need to list how many UCAS points it is, you can if you think the University admissions teams are idiots, but they should know.

The paragraph on football is not useful to why you want to go to University. I mean If Thierry was applying then maybe, but no. Just say you enjoy football as a sport, watching and playing and say how you will get involved in the University this way.

Your paragraph on leisure is limited. This is your weakest part of your personal statement. It hinders you rather than help. I would word it somewhat like this.

Within my spare time, I enjoy interactive games, specialising in console formats. My favoured genera’s include sports, racing, fighting and adventure based. Moreover my passion for gaming is not limited to just consuming. My goal is to take part in the production of a title, which drives me to the pursuit of Electronic Eng.
I also have an interest in film industry, favouring such genera’s from action to comedy. My favourite however would have to be comic book based movies, such as Iron man.

Something like this. It’s not perfect but please if you do anything don’t say you want to be Iron man. It makes you sound that you are not mature for the course.

Also a question I would ask if I was in admissions is. Why this course? If you want to do computer games. Why not do computer sciences what is based more on software rather than eng. Which is more on the physical side.

How do uncollectible accounts affect income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flows?

December 9, 2009 - 4:26 pm 1 Comment

When you write off doubtful accounts, how does it affect your income statements, balance sheets, and statements of cash flows?
This is just a general question. The assignment gave numbers and such, but the information was so limited. I really like your answer. I’m still confused on why it is that way though.

Answer:

When using the allowance method:
No effect on income statement
No effect on balance sheet
No effect on statement of cash flows

When using the direct - write off method:
Income statement: Expenses will increase (net income will decrease)
Balance sheet: Total assets will decrease
No effect on statement of cash flows

Is this statement true? If it is does it really matter what the other people claim to be , be it messianic?

Or Just christian?
Judaism maintains that the righteous of all nations have a place in the world to come.

Since Jesus was the Jewish Messiah yes. God will judge everyone by his standards not by ours. Basically there are two kinds of Jews. Messianic Jews and Non Messianic Jews.

Some Non Messianic Jews insist in defining Messianic Judaism as a form of Christianity. They also tell you that only Jews get to decide who Jews are. In the same breath they tell you who Christians are. In this way they get to define Christianity yet and at the same time Christians don’t have a right to decide who Christians are.

Non Jews don’t believe that Messianic Jews are necessarily Christians. People calling themselves Messianic Jews are as diverse in beliefs and practices as Non Messianic Jews or even Christians, so it’s hard to pin down universal beliefs that some here insist that they have.

A person becomes a Jew by being born of a Jewish mother or converting to Judaism. Once a person is a Jew they are always a Jew.

There is one exception for some people belief that Jesus is the Messiah. Jews will tell you that Messianic Jews have joined another religion and that they stop being Jews at the moment of joining.

At the same time you have Jews practicing Paganism (Jewitch), becoming Buddhists (Jewbu) and joining the Unitarian Church and they will say that they are still Jews. Yet you will never see any complaints about that. (please google these terms and see for yourself.)

All of these religions have a very different understanding of who God is but they will tell you that belief in Jesus invalidate a persons Jewishness because they have a different understanding of who God is.

They will accept the Pagan Buddhist and Unitarian influences on Jewish practice but not from Jesus. Some will even admit that Jesus just taught traditional Judaism but wasn’t anything special even though he taught others that he was the Messiah.

Jews will admit that Christianity started out as a sect of Judaism and that Jesus and all the apostles were Jews. They will also tell you that Jews that are trying to live that life are not Jews. So you know that all the rules are being bent for this one group. It’s just a matter of prejudice.

Someone asked a question about worshiping the Fire God Ferris. The focus of the question was" …would you PERSONALLY feel comfortable welcoming me not just as a fellow congregant at your Synagogue, but as a member of the Tribe?" (so he was clearly asking about converting to Judaism).

The response was "Reform Judaism covers a wide swath of beliefs and practices and I am sure you will be wholly accepted. … I personally would accept you whole heartily as a fellow Jew."

Some Jews can go around proclaiming that a hybridization of Judaism and Paganism is OK but belief that Yeshua is the Messiah is not.

As one person said "we’ve become one big new religion."

Messianics only wish to be treated as fellow human beings. They don’t insist that people accept, agree with them, convert to their beliefs. To habitually insult them and pervert their beliefs is intolerance. They have a right to exist and follow their hearts.

Jews remain Jews because covenant relationships are not like a regular contract. Covenants remain binding regardless of a failure of one party. If this were not the case all of the Israelites would have been destroyed a long time ago. This is clearly illustrated in the Tanakh.

Everybody even many Christians are jealous of their Messianic fervor.

How far to exceed the word limit on the personal statements in UC (california) applications?

December 4, 2009 - 3:50 pm 3 Comments

I am applying to the UC system right now, doing my personal statements. They say that both personal statements should be 1,000 words together (cumulatively), they say also however that a little over, 1012 words for example (this is their literal example), is fine. I just finished and I have 1038 words, will that be ok? Or should i try to restructure the essays and lower it?

You can probably get a way with 1,025 words or less. Use contractions to shorten your personal statement.

Good luck!

If your "quoting" a question in a statement, do you put a question mark after the quote?

November 29, 2009 - 8:17 pm 3 Comments

For example: The cops said,"is this your weed bro"? I’m telling what the cops said, not asking. The quoter was doing the asking. Maybe I should say, [The cops said, ("is this your weed bro"?).] Just curious. I’ve always wondered this.

You put the Question Mark (?) on the inside of the quote, because see the question is being asked from the character not the narrator or person who it say the things like "Then the cop said" ya know. The cop is asking the question not the narrator. So the question mark is definitely on the inside of the quote! Like, if you were email or texting someone and you replied What? You are asking the question. So the end marks are ALWAYS a part of the statement made by the character.
So if i say
That was lame. The period at the end is expressing my feeling’s of boredom and/or disappointment.
If I said
Wow! That was so cool! The explanation point shows how I am expressing my excitement and/or happiness that I have felt for whatever was so cool
And if I said
What was that about again? The question mark indicates that I’m confused and/or puzzled of what ever thing just happened
End marks aren’t just there because. They show the emotion and/or point of view of the subject the character was taking about
Like if I said
Wow. That was sooo fun.
You can tell I am being sarcastic from the end mark. It’s a period instead of an explanation point. The question mark, explanation point, or the period at the end of the sentence is all about the character’s feelings
So if it is about the character’s statement, it should be inside the quotes because it is part of the character’s statement not the narrator’s
So the question mark should be inside the quotes like this
The cop said, "Is this your weed bro?"
See inside the quotes

Statement on your credit report?

November 27, 2009 - 9:50 am 7 Comments

Does anyone know how I can put a statement on my credit report? For example, for an account that was opened w/o m permission (fraudulently) and this was proven, how can I make a statement on the negative info? It should be deleted, I think, but in the meantime??

By law, you are entitled to place a 100 word consumer statement on your credit report. Credit bureaus may tell you they can’t fit 100 words but "The Fair Debt Reporting Act" specifically states you are allowed. Credit bureaus may need to be reminded of this.

Who is insulted most by the following statement: If Rush Limbaugh were gay, his name would be Glenn Beck?

Rush, homosexuals, or Glenn Beck who would this statement most offensive?

Thanks

They probably have pet names for each other.

Conditional SQL Update Statement?

November 25, 2009 - 5:57 am 3 Comments

I have a table with hundreds of columns where some may be duplicated. What I want to do now is go back and add an index of sorts based on that column. For example:

OrderID
OOP-200221
POP-39808903
POP-39808903
POP-39808903
IIK-3993
IIK-3993
KOL-3939393930

I want to add an ID column that would show something like this:
1 - OOP-200221
1 - POP-39808903
2 - POP-39808903
3 - POP-39808903
1 - IIK-3993
2 - IIK-3993
1 - KOL-3939393930

(I used the dash to seperate the values, I just want the number in the new ID column and the OrderID to remain in the OrderID column.)

Is there a way to do this with a SQL statement?

Thanks in advance!
I’m trying to do this in SQL 2005 through a query. I guess I should have specified that.

I wasn’t able to get the query you supplied to work…

If you use phpMyAdmin, you can simply add a column in the front.
I will give you the SQL query however to add something to the beginning of the table.
Query:
ALTER TABLE `db_name` ADD `id` INT( 3 ) NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT FIRST

The FIRST at the end places that column to the beginning.
If you need further help, email me.
Good Luck!
