Excel macro delete rows if a cell equals a certain logical value?

January 12, 2010 - 4:26 am 4 Comments

I want a macro to delete all rows in which a logical value of FALSE is in the cell in Column A. I want it to begin searching with row 11 and move down until it finds no more data.

Note that FALSE is not a text value but is a logical expression of an AND statement.

Here is a short macro that will do as you ask. It will work for Excel 2003, and prior, having 65536 rows and Excel 2007 having 1,048,576 rows.

Sub DeleteRows()
Dim i, LastRow
LastRow = Range("A" & Rows.Count).End(xlUp).Row
For i = LastRow To 11 Step -1
If Cells(i, "A").Value = False Then
Cells(i, "A").EntireRow.Delete
End If
Next
End Sub

How do the 3 accounting financial statements tie together and connect?

January 12, 2010 - 4:25 am 1 Comment

How do the 3 accounting financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cashflow statement) tie together and connect?

(1) Income statement: shows the "retained earnings" of the company for a particular period.
(2) Balance sheet: shows the cumulative "retained earnings" of the company since inception.
(3) Cash flow: shows the net cash of the company for a particular period.

Think of (2) as the cumulative of all of the (1)s put together.

Think of (3) as follows: At any point in time, the company owes some people cash and other people owe the company cash. When all of the cash obligations are eventually settled, that means the cash flow should equal (1).

How do you write a similarity statement in Geometry?

January 8, 2010 - 2:43 pm 5 Comments

If I have two triangles, and they are similar but different sizes, how would I write a similarity statement for them? I need this info ASAP.

The "similar" symbol is ~

If Δ abc ~ Δ def then angle a = angle d, angle b = angle e, and angle c = angle f

Two triangles with the same angles are similar. If the lengths of the sides of the triangles are the same, then the angles are the same and the triangles are congruent.

Hope this helps! :)

How long should a graduate school statement be describing goals?

January 8, 2010 - 2:43 pm 1 Comment

I’m applying to graduate school and one of the requirements is a signed and dated goal statement indicating career and academic goals. Approximately how long should this statement be?

It should be no longer than a page, no shorter than two paragraphs. Start out briefly explaining what you have strengths in and what that has led you to as far as a desire to do grad study. Then go through your academic goals, then career goals and how schooling at that school will greatly contribute to your career goals.

What is the one statement he could make to save himself?

January 5, 2010 - 11:56 am 8 Comments

While exploring the wild highlands of Ireland, Robert was captured by goblins. Grumpy, the chief of the goblins told him he was allowed one final statement on which would hinge how he would die. If the statement he made was false, he would be boiled in water. If the statement were true, he would be fried in oil. Sine Robert did not like either option, so he made a statement that forced the goblins to release him. What is the one statement he could make to save himself?

Robert said: "You will boil me in water." The goblins were faced with a dilemma. If they boil him in water, that would make his statement true, which means he should have been fried in oil. They can only fry him in oil if he makes a true statement, but if they do, it would make his final statement false. The fairies had no way our of their situation so they were forced to set Robert free!!!.

How to delete error on common files?

January 1, 2010 - 8:32 pm 3 Comments

I would like to know the procedure for deleting the statement, error loading C:Program Files\Common Files\Pare logic\IU52\UUS.dll.This program was deleted and now the statement after the above is, The specified module could not be found. I deleted the paralogic program about three months ago. Every now and then, it will appear with the above statement. Help! At times, it will not allow me to shut down the computer automatically.

Do this:

1.Click on the Start->Run menu item.
2.In the Run text box, type in msconfig, then press Enter.
3.In MsConfig, click the Startup tab.
4.See if there’s an entry for that filename. If there is, clear the checkbox next to its name. Note: Windows Vista even has a column that can show the entire command the program was called up with. To display it, click View->Select Columns and check the Command Line checkbox, then click OK.
5.Click OK.
6.Accept the reboot option.

The message shouldn’t come up on the next reboot. You will, however, get a message about your configuration having changed. In fact, if you just click OK, you’ll get this message after every reboot, however, if you click the checkbox before clicking OK, the message won’t come up again unless and until you make another msconfig change.

Note that, if need be, any such changes can be reversed the same way they were made: The entries are not deleted, just deactivated.

Hope that helps.

PS: Doing a Remove or Uninstall on a program rather than going in and deleting files and folders by hand usually prevents situations such as this.

i need help writing a personal statement for a university?

January 1, 2010 - 8:32 pm 2 Comments

now, i have never ever done anything like this. I’m 16 and i’m trying to get into a better college than the one i’m at, so i joined some program thing where they’re gonna help me with it (financially too). I was told to write a personal statement and the prompt given to me is as follows:

————————————————————————————————————————————————
Tell us about a personal quality, talent, accomplishment, contribution or experience that is important to you. What about this quality or accomplishment makes you proud and how does it relate to the person you are?
————————————————————————————————————————————————-

now, i was also given a certain amount of words i was allowed to use (roughly 500). So i’m done for this part. only, i don’t think i’ve done such a good job. Can someone read over this and tell me if it’s a good one or not? i don’t expect someone to lie and say "wow, this is certain to get you into any college," because that’s not all they’ll look at. but i need to know if this is good or not. so anyhow, here’s what i’ve written:

———————————————————————————————————————————————–
Looking back on my life, I find that my most important quality has always been my determination. It has gotten me through a number of struggles at times where the situation seemed hopeless. The most recent example in my life was graduating high school at the early age of sixteen. I skipped first and third grade and that gave me a headstart in school. But in the middle two years of high school my grades began to suffer due to troubles at home and the fact that I just stopped caring.

Nothing in my life was going how I wanted it to go, and I felt to try was pointless. I didn’t know why but it didn’t seem to matter how hard I tried, things just wouldn’t work out for me. And so when I had homework I wouldn’t do it, or I’d procrastinate and end up getting poor grades because of it. I would do well on the tests, but without the homework, it didn’t help me get the grades I should have. My mother would try over and over to get me to do what I needed to so I could graduate on time. But it didn’t even matter to me, nothing did at the time.

Finally, at the end of junior year I decided that school was for me and that after having all the troubles and misery in my past I deserved happiness in my future. I signed up for summer school to make up for the classes I’d failed and decided to take extra classes senior year to meet all my graduation requirements. I still felt as if everything was somehow a scheme to keep me down, as if no one wanted me to succeed, but even so, I’d already made up my mind that if I wanted success I would have to take it from whoever tried to keep me from it.

I did everything I could to keep my grades up and clean up the mess I’d made in the previous two years. When things got hard and I felt like quiting again, I had to remember that I was doing it all for me. I kept telling myself that the greater the struggle, the greater the reward for it. And I was rewarded for my determination in the end; May 19th 2009 I became the youngest person in my family to graduate.

But high school was certainly not the end of my journey. At my graduation party, a great friend of mine told me “chase your dreams, live your life, and be happy, no matter what obstacles stand in your way.” Those words have stuck in my head ever since, and I will follow them until the day I die. I have many dreams to chase and my determination will be the fuel for the fire I need to burn a path to my dreams. With hope and determination I can put my other abilities to good use. Because it doesn’t matter how smart you are, how quickly you can learn, or how much work you can do unless you have the determination to make use of those abilities. I’m making an effort to succeed and I won’t rest until I do.

Am, people like you and MThompson(another answerer on my other question like this) are very helpful. idk why you guys assumed i’d take offense to your answers, i asked for help, not for someone to tell me this is the best thing ever when it wasn’t. if you two hadn’t came to help and telll me what should be fixed and how to do it, i’d have thought this was good even though it wasn’t. i see the errors you guys pointed out and you’re both right. I’m glad you guys were able to help me instead of lying to me. As for some other answerers (on the other question) they didn’t help.they either said it was good (which is a lie i see) or they just said it wasn’t good. but they didn’t tell me what was wrong with it. But you did and i am very grateful for that. i’m going to re do it and ask again, please be there to answer my question later. i’ll come back to this one to post the link to it after i ask it. Thank you in advance

Please do not think I am being mean here, I am trying to help you:

number of struggles at times where the situation seemed
Time is not a where, time is a when.. in which would be better

graduating high school at the early
graduating FROM high school

early age of sixteen
in college writing only numbers below nine are written out, unless they are the first word in a sentence. Use 16

that gave me a headstart in school
head start

and I felt to try was pointless
felt is considered a cliche’ term in college writing. try believe or think

things just wouldn’t work out for me.
college writing is about being clear and concise. Take out for me.

end up getting poor grades
"getting" is informal english. Try end up with poor grade, or something like that.

help me get the grades
avoid get or any form of it

try over and over to get me to
double wording is effective in speech giving, not in writing.

that after having all the troubles
"having" is a really vague term.

I still felt as if everything
again, take out felt

When things got hard
do not use got. Maybe, when things were difficult (better word then hard). comma after hard

graduation party, a great friend
"great" is very over used, vague, and subject to misinterpretation. For all I know, you mean a large friend of yours.

doesn’t matter how smart you are
are you writing about the person reading this, or about yourself? If you want to make this general, try …it doesn’t matter how smart one is, etc

I’m making an effort
never use contradictions in academic writing

Writing a clear and concise letter will help yours to stand out.

How to write a personal statement to explain a change in course subject?

January 1, 2010 - 8:32 pm 1 Comment

I’m looking to study a business and law course in 2010 after a year of studying a media production course, and was wondering how I could phrase this in my personal statement.

I’ll be starting in the first year of this new area, and will hopefully be getting a Certificate in HE for my previous course. I was wondering how I could incorporate this in my personal statement, and how I could outline the change in subject area.

If anyone has any tips on how to do this, I will be pleased to hear them.

Thanks in advance.

Having taken a media production course I was able to learn many advantageous as well as transferable skills which I believe will be highly useful in my chosen business and law course. One such skill is my ability to think critically, being aware of the importance of media bias which will undoubtly be useful in my law career where such a skill is required.

Maybe mention something relating to ethics? You can pretty much apply everything you want, media is an open course and relates to business and law equally

Good Luck :)
