What is the problem with the following statements?

March 25, 2010 - 8:08 am 10 Comments

It is said that the following statements are wrong. Why these statements are wrong? What is the problem with the following statements?

People/things can be divided because they have divisibility.
People/things can be compared because they have comparability.
People/things can be connected because they have connectivity.
People/things can be disturbed because they have disturbability.
People/things can be reordered because they have reorderability.
People/things can be substituted because they have substitutability.
People/things can be satisfied because they have satisfiability.

i think the word "because" may be the problem. if people/things can be divided then they have divisibility by definition. so the word divisibility states that one can be divided but does not explain why it can be divided. it is like trying to define a word by using the same word.

Edit: the answer above me beat me to it and used more sophisticated language lol.

What happens if I do not make a statement to the police?

March 21, 2010 - 9:38 am 2 Comments

I saw somebody fly-tipping recently and I telephoned the police to inform them of this. Now the policeman wants me to visit the police station to make a formal written statement, but I do not see why I should do this because I have already told the police everything I know.

What are the consequences of refusing to make a written statement? Can I be arrested for refusing to make a written statement?

Im a bit confused….unless im mistaken, its the council who deal with this type of offence. Yes it is against the law, but its a civil offence. You should contact the local council, but even then they will ask you for a statement, just as the police have done.
Its not enough to merely report the matter, you have to put pen to paper and provide a written statement otherwise the prosecution have no witness evidence at court.

Can someone interpret this statement for me?

March 19, 2010 - 11:18 am 2 Comments

"If I knew where I had been all this time I’d tell you, but holy shit I just found my way back and I can’t believe how good it feels. Break is off to a great start."

What is this statement saying? (he just went home for break yesterday is the context). Is it directed towards one person or many people? I ask because I recently "broke up" with this guy yesterday and to me it seems like it’s directed towards one person, a girl. Maybe I’m just being paranoid though.

it means he wasn’t happy in his pervious relationship and he’s excited to get on with his life

What is the difference between the statement balance and current balance when i go to make a payment?

March 19, 2010 - 11:18 am 3 Comments

I don’t really understand what the statement balance is. My current balance is higher than my statement balance. I have no minimum payment due because I already payed it I guess but I like to keep on top of my payments and be really early before I forget to pay. How do they figure out what the statement balance is vs. the current balance. But I think I might want to pay the larger amount from the current balance. I’m just kind of confused as you can tell. This is my first credit card account.

Your statement balance is the amount you owed at the time they printed your bill.

Your current balance is the amount you owe in total. Not all of the current balance is due.

For example, on January 10, VISA printed your bill and you owed them $300.
On January 11 you have a meal and spend $30 on your VISA.
Then when you go online to check your credit card statement, you would see a statement balance of $300 - the amount you owe them right away. But the current balance would be $330 - the amount you owe them now plus the amount you’ll pay in the future.

How can stop being intimidated by my financial statements?

March 19, 2010 - 11:18 am 1 Comment

I am always afraid to open my financial statements because I don’t understand them. I get overwhelmed trying to make sense out of them. I am also fearful that I will find I lost money.
How can I become educated and knowledgeable in reading my financial statements?

The same way everyone else does it: by educating yourself. It doesn’t take a PhD in Economics or Finance. Start with some basic books like "Personal Finance For Dummies" and "Investing For Dummies."

Culinary school assignment I need to write a mission statement. Can someone help me please?

March 17, 2010 - 8:31 am 2 Comments

Ok the definition of a mission statement is: a planning tool which broadly identifies what a hospitality operation would like to accomplish and what it plans to do to accomplish it.

I know that running a restaurant is a for profit business. The problem I’m having is that I don’t know what needs to be accomplished which makes it hard for me to write a mission statement.

Can someone guide me or point me in the right directions please I would highly appreciate it.

How about:

‘Mission statements are a complete waste of time, largely meaningless platitudes littered with verbal garbage, which distract from the task in hand and are favoured only by those who prefer a ‘hands-off’, rather than a ‘hands-on’ approach.’

‘I am going to cook you an excellent meal and, if at the end of the evening you haven’t enjoyed it, there will be no charge. Can’t say fairer than that!’

That’s what I call a real mission statement!
