What is a good thesis statement for a paper about the power of myths?

February 17, 2010 - 5:27 am 1 Comment

I am writing a paper about the positive ways myths can make sense of the world around us and potential problems belief in myth can create. I already have all my sources but I am just having trouble coming up with an opening statement so that it doesn’t sound like a 10 year old wrote it. Thanks for your suggestions.

Possibilities:
-The ancient greeks have a powerful mythology that explains the world phenomenon.
- Many of the ancient civilizations had strong religious beliefs that influenced their actions, and helped them to understand the ways of the world.
- The legends told in cultures of the past helped satisfy their curiosity on how the world functioned.

What is a good thesis statement for the Ancient Greek Olympics?

February 15, 2010 - 4:12 am 1 Comment

I need a thesis statement for an essay on the Ancient Greek Olympics, it has to have a support for it, and a reason to debate it. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thank You!

I hope you find this helpful.

Constructing A Thesis Statement:

1.Determine what kind of paper you are writing:

•An analytical paper breaks down an issue or an idea into its component parts, evaluates the issue or idea, and presents this breakdown and evaluation to the audience.

•An expository (explanatory) paper explains something to the audience.

•An argumentative paper makes a claim about a topic and justifies this claim with specific evidence. The claim could be an opinion, a policy proposal, an evaluation, a cause-and-effect statement, or an interpretation. The goal of the argumentative paper is to convince the audience that the claim is true based on the evidence provided.

If you are writing a text which does not fall under these three categories (ex. a narrative), a thesis statement somewhere in the first paragraph could still be helpful to your reader.

2. Your thesis statement should be specific—it should cover only what you will discuss in your paper and should be supported with specific evidence.

3. The thesis statement usually appears at the end of the first paragraph of a paper at which point it is referred to as a thesis sentence.

4. Your topic may change as you write, so you may need to revise your thesis statement to reflect exactly what you have discussed in the paper.

What is the tax statement provided by medical insurance providers for reporting medical expenses?

February 10, 2010 - 7:06 am 2 Comments

I need to know the name/number of the year-end statement that medical insurers provide for reporting medical expenses for tax purposes. I don’t know if my provider automatically sends time out via snail mail, or just makes them available online and I need to know the form to find out.
The insurance provider I had last year (I’ve switched jobs since) provided a statement outlining everything we paid out of pocket. Maybe it was specific to them and I assumed it was a tax form.

There is none. It’s up to you to assemble the bills and proof of payment from your personal records. Insurance companies do not provide statement, either. Only your actual out-of-pocket expenses paid are reportable. What the insurer paid to providers is not.

What was the official statement from the No On 8 campaign after it passed?

No on 1 still has their statement about what the loss of the No On 1 campaign means. Does anyone know if there is an archived file of the No on 8 web page or at least their statement regarding the passage of Prop 8?

they snivelled and claimed that " nobody who isn;t affected should have had a vote on the matter" and " churches shouldn’t be allowed to weigh in on politcal matters"

How long should a thesis statement be for a research paper?

January 23, 2010 - 9:49 am 3 Comments

I have a research paper due. I do not believe that there is a limit to the amount of pages. But I do just need to know how long the thesis statement should be. Thanks in advance.

Well, the thesis statement is usually really ONE sentence, but if you add sentences and modifying details in a few sentences following it, that’s okay, too. But if you were ever told to circle the thesis statement, it would always be the one with the main idea of the whole paper.

Hope this helps! :)

How long should a graduate school statement be describing goals?

January 8, 2010 - 2:43 pm 1 Comment

I’m applying to graduate school and one of the requirements is a signed and dated goal statement indicating career and academic goals. Approximately how long should this statement be?

It should be no longer than a page, no shorter than two paragraphs. Start out briefly explaining what you have strengths in and what that has led you to as far as a desire to do grad study. Then go through your academic goals, then career goals and how schooling at that school will greatly contribute to your career goals.

What is the one statement he could make to save himself?

January 5, 2010 - 11:56 am 8 Comments

While exploring the wild highlands of Ireland, Robert was captured by goblins. Grumpy, the chief of the goblins told him he was allowed one final statement on which would hinge how he would die. If the statement he made was false, he would be boiled in water. If the statement were true, he would be fried in oil. Sine Robert did not like either option, so he made a statement that forced the goblins to release him. What is the one statement he could make to save himself?

Robert said: "You will boil me in water." The goblins were faced with a dilemma. If they boil him in water, that would make his statement true, which means he should have been fried in oil. They can only fry him in oil if he makes a true statement, but if they do, it would make his final statement false. The fairies had no way our of their situation so they were forced to set Robert free!!!.

How to write a personal statement to explain a change in course subject?

January 1, 2010 - 8:32 pm 1 Comment

I’m looking to study a business and law course in 2010 after a year of studying a media production course, and was wondering how I could phrase this in my personal statement.

I’ll be starting in the first year of this new area, and will hopefully be getting a Certificate in HE for my previous course. I was wondering how I could incorporate this in my personal statement, and how I could outline the change in subject area.

If anyone has any tips on how to do this, I will be pleased to hear them.

Thanks in advance.

Having taken a media production course I was able to learn many advantageous as well as transferable skills which I believe will be highly useful in my chosen business and law course. One such skill is my ability to think critically, being aware of the importance of media bias which will undoubtly be useful in my law career where such a skill is required.

Maybe mention something relating to ethics? You can pretty much apply everything you want, media is an open course and relates to business and law equally

Good Luck :)
