Is it necessary to keep credit card statements and utility bill statements?

September 3, 2009 - 1:02 am

I absolutely hate clutter and either like to file papers or simply throw them out. When I get junk mail it goes into the recycling bin immediately. However, I get important documents such as credit card statements, bills, and others of the same sort. Is it important to hold on to these even after I have paid the bills? I usually keep them in a big stack and file them when I get the time. Lately I have been getting lazy and don’t really see the point. I have bill statements from years ago that I have never used for any reason.

You really don’t need to keep these, unless you need the credit card info for tax purposes (if you deduct expenses for business, *and* you don’t have any other receipts).
